Judging Risk in Driving: Strategies for Safety
When scanning the road, the driver should look for pedestrians, unusual objects, route and weather conditions, and other vehicles.
The driver should be observant of their speed relative to other vehicles.
They should predict what other people on the road will do next, assess whether it may be a risk to them, and execute any necessary action.
When making manoeuvres, they should be aware of the risks and be extra cautious.
For example, when overtaking a vehicle, the driver should realize that the overtaking automobile may suddenly speed up or that another car may come from the other lane. Upon learning these risks, the driver should look out for them, and if these risks pertain, they should execute an appropriate action.
In harsh weather, judging risks becomes more difficult due to the reduced visibility. As a result, the driver should be extra cautious.
