RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY: Changing Driving Standards Laws and Regulations

Ontario Driving Standards: Laws, Regulations, and Road Safety

Traffic Laws

Road rules and regulations are continually changing to meet different community requirements.

It is the driver's responsibility to update themselves on changes in the law. Drivers can regularly refer to government websites or watch out for them in the news. Apart from the law's evolving nature, one must also know that the law varies between jurisdictions. When travelling between provinces, drivers must educate themselves on the differences in road rules before driving there.

Students can stay up to date with the changing laws for driving in Ontario in many ways.

Here are some suggestions:

Take a driver education course

Driver education courses help students learn about the rules of the road and the latest laws and regulations related to driving. They cover various topics, including traffic signs, driving in different weather conditions, and understanding traffic laws. Certified instructors typically teach these courses.

Keep up-to-date with news and updates

Many online resources and publications cover the latest news and updates on driving laws in Ontario. Some popular sources include the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, the Ontario Driver's Handbook, and the Ontario Safety League. Students can also follow local news outlets and social media channels to stay informed about driving laws and regulations changes.

Use online resources

Many online resources can help students learn about driving laws and regulations. For example, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation website provides information on road safety, driver licensing, and vehicle safety standards. Students can also use online quizzes and practice tests to test their knowledge of driving laws and prepare for the written driver's test.

Seek expert advice

Suppose you have questions about driving laws or regulations. You can always seek expert advice from driving instructors or local law enforcement officers. These individuals have experience and knowledge about the rules of the road. They can provide guidance and advice to help students stay informed and make responsible driving decisions.

By staying up-to-date with the latest laws and regulations related to driving, students can become safer and more responsible drivers. It's important to remember that the rules and regulations related to driving are constantly evolving, so it's essential to keep learning and staying informed.

Examples

Ontario has implemented the Moving Ontarians More Safely Act, known as the MOMS Act. The MOMS Act includes stricter penalties for stunt driving, improved commercial truck safety, protection for cyclists and road workers, and more oversight of the towing industry. Sections of the MOMS Act will roll out in stages starting July 1, 2021.
