Metro East features heavy urban congestion, complex multi-lane intersections on Lawrence Ave, and the notoriously fast-paced Don Valley Parkway (DVP).
This is a high-volume urban centre. You must manage aggressive lane changers, hidden strip-mall entrances, and heavy transit bus traffic.
The environment is dense and unforgiving. Between the Victoria Park traffic and the DVP ramps, it requires constant 360-degree situational awareness.
Failing to clear the intersection on a left turn. Students get stuck in the middle of Victoria Park Ave when the light turns red due to hesitation.
Dangerous lane changes on Lawrence Ave. Failing to accurately judge the speed of drivers in the right blind spot when asked to change lanes in heavy traffic.
Merging onto the DVP too slowly. Because the DVP is often congested, students fail to confidently find a gap and merge smoothly into the flow.
When turning right onto busy streets like Victoria Park, explicitly check over your right shoulder for cyclists. The bike lanes here are highly active.
If taking the G Test, use the entire length of the DVP on-ramp to match the speed of the highway traffic. Do not merge early over the solid white line.
Watch for transit buses pulling out of stops. By law, you must yield to a signaling transit bus re-entering the live lane.
The parking lot here is very structured but tight. Backing into your spot before the test begins will make your initial exit much less stressful.
